Almost all of this menu can be made ahead, which leaves you with a lot of time on the morning of the brunch to add the finishing touches.

Up to 2 days before:

  • Make and bake the banana bread (except for the chocolate glaze) and the muffins.  Cool completely and cover tightly until the party.  You can also make both up to 1 month ahead of time and freeze them after baking (again, without the chocolate glaze on the banana bread.)  Wrap them tightly in foil and then freezer wrap, or put them in a resealable plastic freezer bag, which is an easier choice for the muffins.  Just be sure to get all of the air out of the bag before putting it in the freezer.  Thaw at room temperature.

The day before:

  • Make the strata and refrigerate.
  • Mix and form the turkey sausage patties and refrigerate until ready to cook on the day of the party.
  • Cut the cucumber and the watermelon for the salad, and make the dressing.  Refrigerate both.
  • Prep the fruit and make the honey-yogurt dressing.  Refrigerate.
  • Make, but do not bake, the prosciutto breakfast rolls.  Refrigerate.
  • Set the table and put out your serving pieces and utensils!

The morning of the shower:

  • Two hours before your guests arrive, squeeze the orange juice if you are doing it yourself (totally not necessary.)
  • One hour before guests arrive, take the strata out of the refrigerator and preheat the oven.
  • One-half hour before, cook the turkey patties and keep warm.  Put the strata in the oven.  Finish prepping and assemble the salad.
  • Bake the breakfast rolls.
  • Make the chocolate glaze and drizzle over the banana bread.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Some advice:  If like most of us, you only have one oven, you can keep the turkey patties warm in a toaster oven, or even in a slow cooker on the warm setting.  And since the strata and the breakfast rolls will overlap, but call for different oven temperatures, use the lower temp (350°F) and cook the rolls for a few minutes longer.
