Fez Blue Dinner Plates

Product Specifications

We love these plates for our Moroccan dinner—use just blue, or mix with the green, and add the smaller side plates and the mini tagines.  They would also work for any Mediterranean, Mexican, or Latin American theme.  These ceramics are made in Tunisia by Le Souk Ceramique especially for Sobremesa using ancestral techniques passed down through generations.  The designs are freehand, the artists never use machines, decals, or stencils, and all of the glazes are food safe.  The ceramics are made by adults over 21 who are not segregated by gender.  Working conditions in the studio are excellent, with proper lighting and ventilation. Wages are well above Tunisian peers and minimum wage, and the workers fully participate in the government's social programs.

The Sobremesa collection was designed by Mimi Robinson, a designer and educator who advocates for artisan enterprises and fair trade around the world.  For this collection, she worked with a Chicago-based eco-fair trade non-profit, Greenheart.  Fair trade supports sustainable community development by ensuring that the artisans making products are paid a living wage.  "Eco" signifies products that are made using the most sustainable materials and methods whenever possible.  The word "sobremesa" literally means "over the table", and reflects the art of savoring the company and conversation of others over a meal—a perfect description of our goal for you at alltoasty.com.
